Traditional Music Workshop in Cambodia:

Initiate yourself in the art of traditional Khmer Music!
We offer to spend a week in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia with the Sovanna Phum Company of dancers and musicians, whose aim is to preserve and promote traditional Cambodian performing arts (shadow theatre, classical dance, folk dance, theatre, circus, etc...).

Dates: All year round for individuals or small groups

Programme:
The courses are given by professional musicians, trained at the Royal University of Arts of Phnom Penh.
Groups are small to ensure that everybody gets attention from the teachers.

None activities of traditional repertory of arts would be possible without the music of the traditional Khmer Orchestra, the "Pin Peat", consisting of:
· Drums
· Chha-peï Dongveng (traditional guitar)
· Wind instruments
· Percussion (khong touch and thom)
· Xylophone (ro-niet)
· Flute (sro-lai)

Chha-peï is the music instrument of the bards. Sometimes along with two other musicians, but usually alone, they travel through the Cambodian countryside singing the happy and sad stories, criticisms, sometimes satires, of the daily life and of the country's political situation. Between 1975 and 1979, the Khmer Rouges have tried to erase totally the "Mekong blues", of which Kong Nai is one of the greatest representatives.

Tariff: 180 € the 15 hour course (material and membership fees included).
