Initiation to wine through tasting and Discovery of the wines from the Languedoc-Roussillon region

The Languedoc-Roussillon region of France possesses the largest vineyards in the world. Stretching from the Rhone river to the Spanish border, it is five times the size of all the vineyards in Australia put together. Its geographical and geological diversity means there is a vast range of different soils and some surprising plantations, for example the schist terraces of Banyuls or the sands of the Gulf of Lion, where the vines can be seen from the beach.
After a serious wine crisis in the 1970s the whole region was transformed, mediocre vines were pulled up and replaced by more noble varieties. 30 years on the region is emerging onto the world market as a place where great wines are produced.
