Pottery workshop in the village of Tamegroute, Morocco
This workshop will give you the opportunity to get acquainted with the art of pottery from Tamegroute, a small and quiet village 18 km south of Zagora. These workshops, which have been around since the 16th century, produce the superb green pottery varnished with hues ranging from reseda to pine to olive green, gives the region an international reputation. The technique hasn’t changed and is passed on from one generation to the next, repeating the same gestures time after time. Currently, seven families still work there.
The workshop takes place in Tamegroute, directly at the traditional factory, where you will be taught to work clay in the traditional way, helped by two qualified artisan potters. About 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon, lunch and tea plus materials provided.
For those interested, possibility of learning how to decorate pottery with henna (optional with a supplemental fee).
At the end of the workshop you will be able to take your creations home with you.
Place: Tamegroute is a small and quiet village located 18 km South of Zagora.
Dates: Workshops take place all year round (but the weather is too hot during the summer months…)

Accommodation: You can be accommodated either in the little hotel of the village for 20/22 € per night (half board accommodation) or in a berber family's house on a full board basis (same price)

* Travel Tamegroute is a family business, originating from Berber and Touareg tribes. They offer a unique approach of authentic Morocco, almost intimate, and they will provide you local visits and excursions if you wish.
* The family can organise a transfer from Ouarzazate or from Marrakech
* This workshop can be longer than 3 days upon request.
The family also offer Darbouka workshop and cooking with a berber family .
