Participate in the restoration of vital ecosystems while gaining practical conservation skills
Mangroves are a type of vegetation that grows in the area between the tide line and coastal regions. This vegetation consists mainly of mangrove trees and shrubs, which are able to adapt to life in shallow brackish water (a mixture of fresh water and sea water).
They are essential for protecting coastlines, supporting marine biodiversity and combating climate change, but these ecosystems face significant threats.
This programme in Hua Hin responds to the urgent need to restore mangroves while raising community awareness of the environment.
Participants will take part in practical activities such as planting mangroves, cleaning beaches and organising waste management initiatives. They will also lead environmental awareness sessions to encourage local residents and future generations to adopt environmentally friendly practices.
By taking part in this programme, you will work with the local team to restore vital ecosystems while acquiring practical conservation skills. Awareness-raising activities will also provide an opportunity to interact with the local population and learn more about the local culture.
Role of participants:
- Participation in mangrove restoration at a local nursery: seed preparation, planting and maintenance.
- Participation in the organisation of waste collection and sorting initiatives.
- Raising awareness among residents and children about recycling, reducing their carbon footprint and preserving the environment.
During this programme, you will have the opportunity to discuss environmental awareness initiatives at the Mangrove Ecosystem Information Centre. You will work in a local setting, with the support of Thai coordinators, and an international setting, interacting with other participants, for a collaborative and culturally enriching experience.
This programme is offered year-round. The programme begins every Monday. Please plan to arrive on Sunday.
