Eco-volunteering in the heart of Guatemala's wilderness
Located in the department of Petén, yhis rescue cente welcomes volunteers to participate in the protection and rehabilitation of Guatemalan wildlife. It focuses in particular on sea turtles and mangroves, which are crucial ecosystems under threat.
Book nowParticipate in the centre's daily activities, animal care and facility maintenance, while discovering the region's exceptional biodiversity.
There are two programmes available for this volunteering opportunity: the Reserva Plan and the Completa Plan.
Both include tasks such as cleaning enclosures and facilities and preparing food for different species. In addition, you will participate in general maintenance: odd jobs, cleaning and transporting fruit and vegetables. You will be responsible for a specific enclosure or area. Finally, you may occasionally assist the veterinary team, but only with the permission of the head vet.
In addition to these activities, the Completa Plan includes a two-day, one-night excursion to the Mayan temple of Tikal (with hotel accommodation included), so the price is higher than for the Reserva Plan.
Activities begin around 6:00/6:30 a.m. and end around 3:00 p.m., with the possibility of hybrid days depending on needs.
Available all year round.
The rooms are shared, but they have all the necessary amenities (bathroom, water and electricity); Internet and laundry services are available at an additional cost, which volunteers must pay in cash upon arrival (this option is optional). Bedding is provided, and it is warm most of the time. You may bring a mosquito net to protect yourself from mosquitoes while you sleep.
