As a volunteer, you will be funny, inmersed in an indigenous community and share their way of life and relationship with yhe environment. This communuty is the Achuar community, one of many indigenous communities in the Andean country. The Achuar live between Ecuador and Peru on the banks of the Pastaza River. They have been fighting for years with other communities, the Achuar were recognised as an indigenous nationality. But even today, these communities must continue to face the challenges that lie ahead and strive to build a more just future.
Te tasks are varied. You can take photographs for advertising and promoting the proyect. You can participate in traditional craft activities and share musical culture. You can accompany school teachers for a day. You will also talk with community members about welcoming visitors and protecting nature. Finnaly, you will be able to have conservations in English (basic or advanced) with members of the community, who wish to develop an English language school.
This program is available all year round.
The minimum duration of volunteering is one week. There is no maximum duration; you can stay for a month or longer (to be specified in advance).
You will be accommodated in cabins. These have wooden floors with enough space to pitch a tent (the volunteer's tent). There are no beds or mattresses, as there never were any in the past, which enhances the volunteer's inmersive experience so that they can fully inmerse themselves in the indigenous way of live in the Amazon jungle. The toilets are connected to a septic tank.

290€ a week, and 240€ the next weeks. This price includes accomodations, three meals a day and boat transport.
Be at least 18 years old and have at least a basic level of Spanish and, if possible, English.
You must arrive in the city of Puyo (approximately 5 hurs by bus from Quito), then in Puyo, the coordinator will accompany you to the Achuar community.
Meals, which, like accomodation, are included in the price, are prepared by members of the community. Every day, you will enjoy breackfeast, lunch and dinner. Depending on requirements, ingredients can be purchased in town. Special diets, such as vegetarianism, are token into account so that everyone can fully enjoy the experience.
The community is quite remote from urban centres, but can be reached by air in about 30 minutes by light aircraft from Shell, which implies the existence of an operational airstrip.
